I’ve just been watching this video from Premier Guitar featuring Nashville session guitarist Bryan Clark. It’s all about how to mic your guitar amp and walks you through the three main types of microphones you’ll use, and give you examples of each.
I’ve been doing some recording at home recently and I agree with what he says at the start that there’s no one ‘right’ guitar tone – it’s such a subjective thing. I’ve been using my SM57 a lot to mic my amp and the best way I’ve found is simply by trial and error. I record something into a looper, play it back as I position the mic with some headphones on.
